We’re looking for a material scientist to focus on improvement and characterisation of our materials and their mechanical properties. This role provides an exciting opportunity to assist in the development of new infrastructure to increase our production output and explore novel products. Candidates should have a keen interest in independent experimental design and analysis.

Previous experience with composite production, material testing and knowledge of global material standards and specifications such as BSEN/CE certification.
Apply material characterisation and process analytical expertise to evaluate the composition, structure, and properties of materials
Plan novel bio-based composite experiments and reach data-driven conclusions
Run and analyse standard material tests (tensile strength, three-point bend, etc.)
Work alongside the team leader to establish project objectives, workflows and timelines
Produce technical reports to communicate the findings of your project
Investigate new fibres, fillers and masterbatch colouring for biopolymers
Produce composites for use in the fashion industry
Conduct injection moulding experiments
Specify and purchase suitable equipment
Maintain lab safety and provide safety guidance to researchers in the lab
Support the lab team with other aspects of material production
Skills & Requirements
MSc Material Science/Engineering
Well-developed independent research skills
Passion for sustainable manufacturing practice
Previous experience using material testing equipment such as tensile testing
Lab experience in relevant field
Understanding of BSEN & CE regulations
Plastic production knowledge (ideally bioplastic specific)
Composite production knowledge (sigma mixers/twin-screw)
A basic understanding of polymer chemistry
Ability to work in fast-paced startup environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Effective written and oral communication skills
